Red Magazine July 2015

Yasmin is on the cover of the July issue of Red Magazine, photographed by David Gubert and styled by Nicola Rose with hair by Ben Cooke and makeup by Ashley Ward.

In the accompanying article by Saska Graville, she talks about her active and weathered household (“You can see every wire in my home, it’s like spaghetti junction. And let’s not talk about the dog pee.  All I can say is, what was a cream carpet now looks very on-trend tie-dye. And my curtains are very ‘dog-pee ombre'”), “muddled” family life (“We’re a happy gang, and our gang gets bigger and bigger”), durable marriage (“I’m sure the reason we’ve been married so long is that we’ve spent huge amounts of time apart.  You can support someone, but you have to go off and have your own life”), and where she sees the future taking her (“I’m open to adventures. I want to go hiking in Chile, discover more of Europe… Who knows, the world’s my oyster”).  She also opens up about her longtime struggles with depression for the first time in a refreshingly upfront and honest fashion that goes to show that it can affect anyone and helps call attention to a condition that remains largely stigmatized.

I have had real depression,’ she says. ‘It’s a running battle every day and I’ve worked very hard at it. I’m in control of it but it’s there all the time. I’m not frightened of it any more, I can talk about it.’

For herself, she has never gone down the antidepressant route, but trusted that the darkness will come to an end. ‘You’ve got to know you are going to get out of it. It may take time, but you will,’ she says. ‘I haven’t [taken medication] but I would if I felt myself really on the edge and needed extra help. If your body’s not producing what it should be, then there’s nothing you’re going to be able to do about it. We have the science, knowledge and understanding to put it right. You’re not a failure, it’s an illness.’

In addition to being featured on the cover, Yasmin was also photographed with her three daughters (Amber, 25, Saffron, 23, and Tallulah, 20) in their first family photo shoot for Red since October 2001.

The magazine will be available at newsstands on 28th May and can be purchased as a digital download at http://www.redonline.co.uk/magazine/digital-edition.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Today is Mother’s Day in the UK, and to mark this special occasion, enjoy these photos of Yasmin with her daughters Amber, Saffron, and Tallulah (now aged 23, 21, and 18).  Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there!

Remake, remodel…

Yasmin is rocking the daring new haircut trend of the undercut this summer, belying her 47 years and reinventing herself in the process.  She told Grazia, “Luke Hersheson did it.  He’s brilliant and wasn’t frightened or intimidated by chopping it all off.”

This is not her first flirtation with short locks, having previously cropped her more familiar long hair in 1993 and 2002.
